We go out for coverage “The fire festival of Nachi”.
One of Japans Three Largest Fire Festivals
The Nachi fire festival is held every year on July 14th at the Kumano Nachi Shrine located in the mountain areas of Wakayama prefecture.
The ceremony consists of returning the god enshrined at the Nachi Taisha Shrine back to his home, the Hirou Shrine located in front of the famous Nachi Waterfall. The large torches of fire (Ootaimatsu) weighing 50 kilograms are carried along the path in order to purify it prior to the god’s journey giving the festival its name, “The Nachi Fire Festival.”
Tadaima Japan will be covering this event for the year 2014 and will report back later on it.
