It’s Tokyo’s Oasis where you want to visit on a sunny day
1 minute walk from JR Iidabashi station, “CANAL CAFE” is located alongside the Kanda River. It’s a floating café where you can view the moat and have a relaxing time.
When you enter the entrance and go upstairs, you will find the restaurant on the left side and outside deck on the right side, so you can enjoy this café differently according to your needs.
◇In the restaurant, you can enjoy fresh buffet salad and hearth-baked pizza in a wide open space.
◇You can enjoy buffet drinks and snacks under the blue sky on the outside deck.
The oasis for Tokyoite traces back to Edo period.
CANAL CAFÉ is now popular as an Italian restaurant, but it was originally a boat pier that was called EST 1918 TOKYO SUIJYO CLUB(東京水上倶楽部), and it was the first boat pier built in Tokyo. In 1918, There was no recreational facilities in Tokyo where people can relax, so the pier was built with using the moat along the river.
At that time, there were soda pops(ラムネ) and shaved Ice(かき氷) sold, or even releasing fireflies and displays of sky rockets were held sometimes.
Let’s row a boat on the water!
EST 1918 TOKYO SUIJYO CLUB has been loved by many people, so I also experienced rowing a boat! After leaving the pier, I rowed the boat slowly to the river. While JR Sobu Line was running along the river, we found a nice and quiet space surrounded by the moat.
We had such a relaxing time that we couldn’t believe we are right in the middle of Tokyo.
The scenery from the water looked a bit different, and it was wonderful. You might have special conversations with your friend, family or your boyfriend/girlfriend on a boat.
The moat will be covered by pink in spring
Speaking of CANAL CAFÉ, it is famous for its cherry blossoms. In spring, the cherry blossoms on both sides of the moat are in bloom, and people can enjoy having a cherry blossoms party. The cherry blossoms at night are also beautiful.
The way the petals fall off on the water surface that reflects the moon is beautiful and magical. I can’t wait for spring to come!
