Gain a healthy spirit and body at Mt. Homan!
Fukuoka is a gourmet’s town!
Fukuoka has an endless amount of good food including, mentaiko, tonkotsu ramen, unthickened stew, hot pot stew with offal, and yatai-meshi. It’s not an exaggeration to say that, it’s inevitable that you’ll gain weight while traveling Fukuoka. Don’t worry if you ate to much, you can hike Mt. Homan and get some exercise as well as finding true love! It takes about an hour by limousine bus or taxi to get to Mt. Homan from Fukuoka Airport.
Get refreshed by hiking Mt. Homan!
The elevation of Mt. Homan is 829-meters. It takes about an hour to the top if you’re good at hiking, but usually takes 2 hours even if you’re beginner. Prepared yourself with good shoes, water, a camera, and a towel! You’ll find the large Torii of Kamado-jinja Shrine at the base of Mt. Homan!
If you go to the left hand side of Torii gate, there’s a paved street. While walking this street, the sunlight and wind will refresh you. Even on rainy days, you don’t have to use an umbrella, because the tree cover will protect you from rain. If you hike up to the Torii at the top, you can get a good amount of exercise in about 40 minutes.
At this point, the rocky roads begins. At the top of the mountain you’ll find the beautiful scenery of Dazai-fu. It’s not easy to get here, but you’ll feel very content when you finish hiking. The weight that you might have gained in Hakata will come right off after climbing to the top. I recommend that you to take a car to the first Torii.
The recommended route for Mt. Homan.
Its about a 2 to 3 hour round-trip to Mt. Homan. If you want to take more time and tour around, I recommend you to stay overnight. I hope you’ll appreciate the healing power and content feeling you’ll get from the mountain, when you return to the city and pray for the enshrined god. It’s quite difficult for beginners to go directly to the top, so I don’t recommend it to just everyone. I think returning on the same road you went up is the best way, because it’s easier. On the way back, there is a new office where you can buy lucky charms for love, money, and business.
