Tochigi Prefecture has the largest production of strawberries in Japan!

The season for strawberries in Japan is between December and May. There are farms that offer a strawberry harvesting experience. Tochigi Prefecture has the largest production of strawberries in Japan, so the Tochigi strawberry “Tochiotome”, is the most famous brand in Japan. Today, I’ll show you a farm called “Ichigo-no-sato” in Oyama city, where you can harvest “Tochiotome”!

 

It takes about an hour to get to Ichigo-no-sato from Tokyo.

The Tohoku bullet train conveniently stops at JR Oyama station and Ichigo-no-sato farm is located 15 minutes from JR Oyama station by taxi. You can taste Tochiotome strawberries, as well as a very rare strawberry called, “Tochihime”, which is usually not sold in supermarkets. You can also pick Japan’s giant “Skyberries”, which have a delicious sweet and sour taste. They also offer cooking workshops for jams and cakes, souvenir shops where you can purchase original desserts and wines, and a restaurant that offers local cuisine.
