Each city in Japan has its own designated flower that represents the city. Niigata Prefecture and Toyama Prefecture both have tulips as their designated flower. Niigata has the highest rate of nationwide tulip exports, while Toyama exports most of them in Japan. Both Prefectures are taking on the important role of the Japanese tulip industry. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a tulip festival held in Echigo Kyuryo Park, Niigata Prefecture!

Two hundred thousand tulips swaying in the spring breeze

Every year from around late April to mid May, a tulip festival is held at Echigo Kyuryo Park. In 2016, it’s from Saturday, 23rd April to Sunday, 8th May.
There are 200,000 of 147 types of different tulips blooming on 3,000 square meters of land. The sweet smells of tulips will make you feel relaxed.

It’s the best place for a picnic and you can enjoy the park throughout the year!

Echigo Kyuryo Park is located in the middle part of Niigata Prefecture, in Nagaoka city. It has 400 acres of vast ground. In spring you can come here for picnic or a BBQ, and during winter you can enjoy the snow. There will be many families visiting on weekends with cheerful voices of children playing, echoing throughout the area. Why not visit if you have any consecutive holidays during the summer? It’s also nice to take a nap under the trees!
