We go out for coverage “The Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival”.
A Tradition Dating Back 770 Years
The Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival is held every year between July 1st and 15th at the Kushida Shrine located in Hakata city, Fukuoka prefecture.
The spiritual vehicle for the local god at this festival is the Yamakasa and measures three meters in height and weighs one ton. During the festival the Yamakasa is carried by brave men throughout the city of Hakata for a distance of 5 kilometers giving the festival the nickname, ‘A Man’s Festival.’
Tadaima Japan will be covering this event for the year 2014 and will report back later on it.
