Let’s Witness the Whirling Current

The Naruto whirlpools are located in the Strait of Naruto and are tidal whirlpools generated by the currents that meet between the Pacific Ocean and the inland sea.

They reach sizes of 20 meters in diameter and during the spring and autumn flood tides, they become as much as 30 meters in diameter being the largest in the world. The spring ocean tides are generated by gravitation pull dependent on the alignment of the moon, sun and earth.
These whirlpools are seen twice a day about an hour before and after high and low tide and exhibit loud thunderous sounds that resemble thunderstorms.
The power of nature can be seen from either the bridge or tour boats available in the area.
