Let’s stroll down the 2.6km long shopping street from north to south!
The “tenjinbashi-suji-shotengai”shopping street is the longest shopping street in Japan and is located in Kita-ku, Osaka. There are more than 600 shops located very close to Osaka Tenmanguu, with so much to see! If you want to take a full tour, please get off the train at the JR Tozai line“Osaka Tenmanguu” station or “Minami-morimachi”station. Parts of this famous street are classified according to the names of each town. Let’s go inside from the Tenjinbashi-suji 2 chome entrance, called “Tenjin”.
Huge dolls and a Torii gate will welcome you!
At the entrance of Tenjin, there are 4 massive dolls. These dolls are called “Omukae-ningyo”, literally meaning, welcoming dolls.
Their faces are so epic, I couldn’t help but to smile. Shortly after that, I entered“Tensan shotengai”, a flying Torii that is said to bring you fortune! The path of Tenmanguu was modeled for this Torii.
From souvenirs to eating, there is so much to see.
The shopping street is from ‘Ten-ichi’ to ‘Ten-nana’ literally meaning, 1 to 7 and the many, colorful shops along the way will seduce you. Please try some of the food, like the takoyaki or cabbage yaki. You can even find some leopard-patterned clothes that are typically known to be what middle-aged women in Osaka wear.
It takes about 30 to 40 min to walk the entire street, so be sure to designate more time to fully enjoy it.
