Heading to Miyajima-guchi Pier from Hiroshima city.
Miyajima/Itsukushima Shrine is one of the most popular destinations in Hiroshima. There are several ways to get there, but I’d like to introduce travelling by ferry. First of all, you need to take a streetcar from the last stop at Miyajima-guchi. It takes about 70 min from Hiroshima station. (It takes about 25 minutes from Hiroshima station if you take JR Sanin Mainline)
As soon as you step off the train, you’ll feel a sea breeze blowing in from the sea, and you feel like you are in the middle of nature. It’s so different from busy Hiroshima city. There are two ferry companies at the station, but they cost the same. Choose one depending on when it departs by comparing their schedules.
Enjoy nature and Itsukushima Shrine for 10 minutes.
Let’s get it on after buying a ticket! If it’s sunny, I recommend that you to stand on the observation deck. You can view Itsukushima Shrine nestled in nature and the big Torii gate. These sights will present different faces as you get closer, and the 10-minute ride seems to quickly pass by. When I was on board, tourists were constantly taking photos. It is indeed picturesque.
It even carries automobiles!
Locals as well as tourists use this ferry as a necessary way of transportation. These people go to school, to the office, or even go shopping by ferry.
The ferry runs every 10 to 15 minutes between 6 A.M. and 10 P.M., so you don’t have to wait very long. JR West Miyajima Ferry also offers different routes like, passing closer to the big Torii. It’s also fun to take a different ferry to and from the island.
